Late-Night/Early-Morning MAX Service Provided by Buses
These buses serve the last few trips of the service day for MAX lines, beginning at or near midnight.
As of August 25, 2024
TriMet has introduced bus service that runs in place of MAX trains during late-night hours. This affects MAX Blue, Orange, Red and Yellow lines. MAX Green Line is not affected.
Providing late-night trips on buses instead of trains allows us to complete more overnight maintenance projects on our light rail system and reduce unplanned service disruptions, as well as multi-day disruptions for improvement projects. This helps us provide more reliable MAX service for our riders.
While buses run in place of MAX trains, they only provide service for current late-night MAX trips. The buses do not run throughout the night. They match current MAX late-night service hours.
TriMet has the second-shortest overnight maintenance window of any U.S. transit agency that runs light rail service, with only 47 minutes in which no MAX trains are running anywhere on our 60-mile light rail network. Long service hours also lead to excessive wear and tear on rails, track equipment, overhead wires and trains.
Late-night schedules
A MAX Green Line late-night/early-morning bus is not needed because the Green Line already has a nearly five-hour overnight work window.
