How to buy and use the Honored Citizen fare

Seniors 65+ and people on Medicare

If you’re age 65 or older or on Medicare, you qualify to use TriMet’s reduced Honored Citizen fare. You don’t need to apply in advance to use the reduced fare. Just keep your government-issued photo ID with proof of age or Medicare card handy when boarding in case a bus operator or fare inspector asks to see proof of eligibility.

People with disabilities

If you have a verifiable mental or physical disability, you qualify to use TriMet’s reduced Honored Citizen fare. However, you must apply for and receive a personalized photo ID Hop card before using the reduced fare. Simply load money on your card, then tap it on the green Hop reader each time you board.

People with qualifying incomes

If you’re enrolled in Oregon Health Plan, SNAP or TANF, or if you meet the income requirements, you qualify to use TriMet’s reduced Honored Citizen fare. However, you must apply for and receive a personalized photo ID Hop card before using the reduced fare. Simply load money on your card, then tap it on the green Hop reader each time you board.
